FINAL EVALUATION// AUDIENCE FEEDBACK

I only asked people that where football fans as then they would be more interested in the information and this is my target audience so I would get better feedback from someone that doesn’t know football.

The first question I asked was very important as I asked how interactive was it on a scale from 1-5, this is important as its the whole project to make my product interactive, they all gave me high scores with one person out of 10 people picking 4 which still means its fairly interactive. This means I did well with my research as I learnt how to make my product as interactive as possible.

Screen Shot 2019-02-15 at 09.51.25

Everyone said my magazine engaged them this shows my research was good enough to make an engaging product.

Screen Shot 2019-02-15 at 09.51.50

I then wanted to ask what they liked about the magazine as I wanted to know what I did well. People liked lots of different things they liked the layout, the way it worked was easy, they liked the variation and the visuals. This means that I did well to make the magazine look attractive and I did good research to make everything attractive and make a good layout. I also had a good balance of information and interactivity.

Screen Shot 2019-02-15 at 09.51.56

I then asked what the person would change about the magazine so then I know what I could do differently next time, a couple of people said they would have wanted some more information on his background so his age, where he was born and some more facts about his height and how he made it into football, this is something I could do if I was to do it again. The good thing is some people said nothing which means it couldn’t be improved which is also good for me as it means I did well.

Final Evaluation

Virgil Van Dijk

Above is my finished Liverpool magazine I discussed how I got to this point in my last blog, I now have got some audience research and I am going to review my final piece myself and compare it to how I wanted the final piece to look.

As I wanted my magazine to look something similar to the Liverpool magazine on the left I added all the big bold writing, the players face, name, the clubs name and logo and the sponsors on the front. In my opinion I have done really well on getting it to a similar level however it is down to what my audience think.

I asked my questions on a Liverpool fan page and on google forms to other Liverpool fans so I could get the most accurate results possible. The first question I asked was about engagement as I asked if my front cover would make them want to read more, this is so I know if my front cover was attractive enough to pull the reader in and make them want to buy/ read the magazine. Everyone said it makes them want to read more because of the bright colours and the big bold easy to read text, they also said all the information gives them a good insight into the magazine and this is what makes them want to read on.

Screen Shot 2019-02-14 at 09.46.14

The majority of people said it is what they expect from a Liverpool magazine however a fair few said it isn’t this is perhaps because I have gave it more of a cartoon look compared to a more realistic picture that they normally use. The people that said it it what they expect is because they said that the colours match the theme well, which means  I have done well with my research to get the correct colours.

Screen Shot 2019-02-14 at 09.46.21

I now wanted to know what would people change about the magazines so i could get an even better view of what I could have done to make people like it even more. My audience had mixed views some said it was good enough and didn’t need any others said they would have made some slight changes as they would have mixed up the font a little and added some more players. Others said they would have changed the placement of the text or the Liverpool logo and made it more central.

I now asked what they liked about the magazine so I know what I have done well. A few people said they liked how I have used the cub colours so it matches and they have liked how have drawn the player, this is good as it shows my research was good enough to know what to include on the front page. People have also said they like the font as its big and easy to read with the black outlines as it makes it stand out.

I now have solved the problem of there being no Virgil Van Dijk magazine because I have created it.

Audience Feedback and final review

Rubix Cube Video

For my 60 Second Documentary, I edited it using Final Cut Pro I tried my best to make it as similar to the sixty second documentaries as possible. I  put the text on screen like the documentaries, I asked Bertie questions so his answers would be a commentary over the video clips of him doing the rubix cube.

For my documentaries I got some audience feedback from people that watch sixty second documentaries. I asked questions so the feedback I got would be good enough to help me improve it if I did it again. The first question I asked was simply did they enjoy it I asked this so I know if it was engaging enough for my audience, 18 out of 20 people said yes so I did well to keep my audience interested and engaged.

Screen Shot 2019-02-13 at 11.53.21

The majority of the people said that they found out enough information, however the people that didn’t also wrote a reason why on the next question, this is something I need to have a look on for next time and try and ask the person enough questions to get enough vital information off them and onto the documentary.

Screen Shot 2019-02-13 at 11.53.29

Some of the people said they would get Bertie to speak more this ties in with the question above as if I had asked him more questions he would have then spoke more and gave out more information. Another few people also said to add more still images, this is something I should have done more of as I could of took pictures of him in different surroundings doing the rubix cube.

People liked the camera shots I did, they said the music fits well and the editing as a whole was good and they also said it looks professional, this is good because it means I did well with all the production.

All together my feedback was very good and positive which means when I come to do this again or something similar I know what to improve on.

As a whole my documentary went well however if I could change a few things about it I would have added more information from Bertie and added more still images of Bertie doing the Rubix cube as then it would have gave my audience more information on Rubix cubes and his talent.

Magazine Front Cover Creation

To start off my magazine I created the Liver bird which is the Liverpool logo, I did this as it is something Liverpool FC put on the front of there magazines, to do this I simply went around the shape of the Liver bird to get the outline using the pen tool, I then filled it with red for now as that is the Liverpool colour however it is yellow on the kits.

Screen Shot 2019-01-30 at 11.49.04

Here I added some of the other details to the bird which was the eye and the moon shape inside the body.

Screen Shot 2019-01-30 at 11.48.40

As you can see here I had all the little parts that made up the logo, as I wanted to make it easier and make it an asset I selected the whole image and grouped it so it was all one, I then opened up the assets menu and dropped it in there so it was there when I needed it.

Here you can see it is in the assets menu this means I can access it anytime I want to by going inside the assets menu.

Screen Shot 2019-01-31 at 09.09.52

Next, I wanted to go onto making the main feature on the front page therefore I started to create Virgil Van Dijk, I started off by creating a simple A4 sized canvas and then added in an image of him I wanted to trace.

Screen Shot 2019-01-31 at 09.17.32

To trace the image I used the pen tool to roughly go around him and then I curved some of the ones I needed to curve afterwards using the node tool.

Here I started to get into the finer details by creating the white stripes on his collar I again used the same method went around the edges with the pen tool and created the curves with the node tool. To colour it I used the Idropper tool which is where you go over a colour and it picks out that colour for you I did this for all of my colouring.

Then I created the whole collar by using the same method as before.

Here I started to finish off the details of the shirt by creating the button by simply using the circe asset, to create a darker tone around it I gave it a slight outer glow, I also created different shades by simply selecting the part I wanted to make darker and going on the colour selector and dragging the red slightly darker.

Here is the finished collar.

Next I started to create the different shades for the rest of the top, for this I used the same technique and made sure I changed the colours slightly to create the different shading in the top.

Here is the finished top, as you can see I also have some black on the inside of the colour this is the shading for what is on the players neck I did this as i wanted to try and make it as detailed as possible, I did this by going around the dark tones with the pen tool and curving it with the node tool and the bit that weren’t as dark I made the opacity lower so it wasn’t as dark.

Screen Shot 2019-02-01 at 14.48.45

As I had now done my top I grouped it all to make it one piece of work I did this so its easier to access certain layers whenever I need to.

Here is the process I went through to create the shading around the neck.

I then went on to Virgil to start creating his actual neck and face I started off by creating his neck so I was working from top to bottom. I used the same technique to draw his neck, to get the colouring I used the Idropper to get his skin colour and to add the fade I used the gradient tool and dragged it across and thats how I got his skin tone well.

Now to create his face I simply went around the outline again with the pen tool and the node tool to make the curves, to get the colour I used the gradient tool again and used the Idropper to get the proper skin tone of his face.

I then went around his hair on his head and his facial hair and then went around his ears I used the same technique again by using the pen and node tool.

Screen Shot 2019-02-01 at 15.21.36

As you can see now everything is shaded in by using black for his facial hair and head hair, his ears are also coloured to match his skin tone I did this by Idropping over the darkest tone on the right side of his face and then using the gradient tool and Idropping over the lightest part of his face.

To make things less complicated and muddled up I now made the head a separate group therefore again I could easily access everything I needed.

I now was onto the facial features, the lips where hard to replicate with the colour therefore I spent a lot of time trying to layer it and create the different tones in his lips by using the gradient tool and just creating slightly darker layers on some points, I also gave it an outer glow as he does have a slight glow around his lips on this photo.

I then created his nose, this for me was a struggle at first as I couldn’t get it to look real for a while, I tried to see if the shading would work when adding that to the right side of his nose but it still made the rest of the nose look fake, I even tried seeing if I needed to add the eyes and eyebrows to see if that would help, it did in someway but not totally, so I tried one more thing and that was using the paint brush tool so I could blend it in well and it worked good.

AsScreen Shot 2019-02-06 at 12.24.23 you can see I faded it in till it reached the eyebrows and it makes the nose look so much more real.

To create the eyes and the eyebrows I simply used the outline of his and went around it with the pen and node tool to get the eye shape but i made the pupil of the eye by simply getting a circle asset. The eyebrows where easy as I just went around the edges and filled it in with black as that is the colour of his eyebrows.

As you can see I also added his birth mark as it is another main feature on his face I simply went around it with the pen and node tool and then filled it a darker brown put slightly lowered the opacity and added an outer glow to blend it in better.

Here is the finished Virgil Van Dijk in my opinion it came out really well and I managed to overcome any problems I had by using effects and the different range of tools there are.

Screen Shot 2019-02-06 at 12.24.23

I now started to do the rest of the magazine I started top to bottom again so I could work my way up and know how much room I have have for the main pieces of text around the page, this is where I know came to something that my audience wanted as when doing my primary research they said they preferred a magazine with text on the front page as it draws them in more. I made all of my text yellow and made the font ‘Impact’ font as it is easy to read and similar to what Liverpool use as there font for there magazines. I also wanted the writing to stand out more therefore I gave it a black outline then it could stand out well in the page. As you can see here I did do some repositioning of text as I couldn’t fit it all in to the size I wanted therefore I made some readjustments. I also changed the size of the space in between the letters to 43% to be able to fit it on the page better.

Now I got to the top of the page where I wanted the headings to be as this is what Liverpool magazines do they put the main pages that people would want to see at the top, I made sure I also made this the same font as the rest and made sure it stood out. I created the black and red rectangles by using the rectangle asset.

I now got to the LIVERPOOL FC text and logo that every Liverpool magazine include, I did this and in my head had to look back to my planning as I knew I had done something wrong with the colours as it didn’t go to well in my opinion these colours, I got the Liver bird I had previously made from the assets menu.

This is where I looked back at my research and planning and changed some of the colours around and got my red background and made it two tones of red by using the gradient tool, I changed the logo back to its normal yellow colour and also made the LIVERPOOL FC title yellow to match up, this now looked a lot better.

Here now is my almost finished magazine.

Screen Shot 2019-02-07 at 09.56.35

For the final part I needed to put Liverpool’s sponsors at the bottom, I did this by tracing around the outside of the logos and then getting rid of them and using my own graphics of them so everything I did was my own.

Here is my finished front page magazine.

Interactive Magazine Creation

First of all I collected lots of information from official sites and put it into a word document, all the links to the information are in there to.

virgil info

How I got my pictures and videos in was by going to the widgets tab and clicking either the gallery, media or interactive image depending which one I wanted. The whole point of the video is so that people can interact with it and click it to play when they want so after or before they have read the information on the page. This is good so my audience have the power they want over my page.

Screen Shot 2019-02-06 at 1.36.06 PM

The gallery means I can put several pictures in at once therefore when the viewer wants to they can click to swipe across to other images and therefore interact with it. This is good as it engages the audience more and gives them more control on what they want to see.

To be able to make the background a certain colour you have to make a shape and then fill the shape with the colour you like as it just does not let you change the colour of the background in anyway.

Screen Shot 2019-02-06 at 11.07.01 AM

This is the interactive image, this is really good for my audience to interact with the image and be able to click on what pieces of information they want, when they do this it zooms in to the information you have clicked on and makes it easier to read, then when you click off the text it goes back to the full image so the viewer can click on another piece of information. This gives the viewer options to click on what they want to read and gives them power over what they want to see in the magazine.

I did have a problem when going from Ibook author to Ibooks as when I exported this I wasn’t able to see some of the images I had placed in the gallery, to try and solve this I exported the photos that wouldn’t go in into a different file for example JPEG, PNG and PDF and no format would work therefore I couldn’t get to the bottom of this problem and had to miss out on some of my images.

Here is the front page that I have created in graphics for my magazine.

Virgil Van Dijk

Magazine rough sketch

This is the front page to the Virgil Van Dijk magazine I am creating, I am making this in graphics as that is my main task for that lesson the reason I have done the categories at the top of the page are to link with what is going to be inside the magazine. Therefore I am going to do one page on how he won player of the month, one page on his stats this season and one page on all the action he’s been involved in. As this is going to be interactive I will be making sure I do everything with interaction so the player of the month will be an interactive image of how he won it, his stats will come along with pictures and his all the action he has been involved in for Liverpool will be a video. As I go through the planning process I will do a side by side analysis of how I have changed just a normal Liverpool magazine to a more interactive one.

2f21258c-d066-4a2a-817e-c76496cbfcc3

These are my rough page ideas, the first page I want people to see when they turn the page is a picture of the player with a player quote as this is what they have done in the Liverpool player magazines.

This is the image I am going to use for it.

virgil+van+dijk+liverpool+unveil+new+signing+lka2t1uz_8ux

Zimbio. (2019). Virgil van Dijk Photos Photos: Liverpool Unveil New Signing Virgil van Dijk. [online] Available at: http://www.zimbio.com/photos/Virgil+van+Dijk/Liverpool+Unveil+New+Signing+Virgil+van+Dijk/LKA2t1uz_8u [Accessed 29 Jan. 2019].

“Playing at Anfield was always something I looked forward to and enjoyed.” This is the quote I want to use next to his image.

Liverpool FC. (2019). Virgil van Dijk’s first LFC year: Signing in at Liverpool. [online] Available at: https://www.liverpoolfc.com/news/first-team/331525-one-year-of-virgil-van-dijk-signing-in-at-lfc [Accessed 29 Jan. 2019].

This is my next page which is a page on him winning player of the month, as you can see I am making the information more interactive as it is not going to be all around the image it is going to be part of the image, this is what the audience want as they want to feel more involved in the magazine.

The next page is on his season so as you can see I am making it interactive by adding photos that people can slide through whilst reading some information this means I can get more photos on one page where as the normal magazine is just one still image.

This final page is all about Virgil Van Dijk in action therefore this will be a video people can click on to play, around that will be quotes of what people say about the player. This is clearly different as you cannot just buy a magazine from containing a video.

056fbe00-2349-47f1-bc84-60636868bc4a.jpeg

Here you can see how my back page is going to be slightly different to the normal magazine page as at the bottom I will have links to the sites I have used to collect all the information and the links to the picture and videos I have used therefore I can’t get accused of copyright.

Front Page Magazine Rough Sketch

I own these two magazines about Liverpool FC players I am going to use these as great inspiration when designing the front page of my magazine about Virgil Van Dijk. The main thing I am looking to include are the player picture as the main feature and then lots of writing around him as when doing my primary research I came to notice that a lot of my audience preferred a magazine front cover with writing as they said it makes them want to read it more which is what I want from my front cover as I want it to attract people.

96ef668a-6066-4549-86e3-e3a007419949

Below is my first sketch up of my front page magazine this is the basic layout of how I want things based off the research I have made. As you can see from the top of the magazine there is the Liverpool FC name all in capitals with the logo next to it this is just the traditional way they layout there magazines therefore I will stick by that, the logo I will do is the Liver bird only as that is what Liverpool has changed there logo to. Below that I then have the main picture which is Virgil Van Dijk I then around him have a few comments of what people have said about him I have done this as my primary research shows me that’s what people like most. At the bottom of the page will be his name just above the Liverpool Sponsors.

2f21258c-d066-4a2a-817e-c76496cbfcc3

As I will be sticking with the usual Liverpool magazine colours I will be using the colours red, white, yellow and black. The categories at the top will all have a black background with yellow writing. The back ground of the whole image will be red and I will use the gradient tool to have a faded red across the page. The LIVERPOOL FC writing will be in white to stand out and the comments on the page will be yellow. VIRGIL VAN DIJK will be in yellow as well to stand out. Then where the sponsors are at the bottom of the page that will have a black background. Then the player will have black hair with light brown skin and a red T- Shirt.

I will start off by doing Virgil Van Dijk as he will be one layer I will create his head shape first and do the outlines of his hair, eyes, nose and mouth. I will then do his neck and the top of his body.

Next I will do a gradient red background and add the categories at the top and the sponsors at the bottom. I will then do the LIVERPOOL FC writing and logo at the top and then place Virgil in the centre of the page. Next I will put all the writing around him and finally finish off by putting his name just above the sponsors.

Virgil Van Dijk Primary/ Secondary Research

As people want the magazine article to have more writing on the front I thought it would be best to get some research on what people have said about him to put comments around the side of him.

From the sites I have referenced below there are several big comments about Virgil Van Dijk that I am going to put around him on the front of the magazine. The reason I want to add these comments is because its written words to what people have actually stated about him.

“The Key Factor”

“Always in the right place”

“A real leader”

“Best centre back in the premier league”

talkSPORT. (2019). Virgil Van Dijk is the best in the Premier League, says ex-Liverpool defender. [online] Available at: https://talksport.com/football/441554/virgil-van-dijk-best-centre-back-in-premier-league-liverpool-stephane-henchoz/ [Accessed 25 Jan. 2019].

Primary research

For my primary research I used a Liverpool FC Facebook page that has over 21,000 followers as this is my target audience therefore I asked them to vote what front cover of a magazine they preferred the results I got where at first very mixed but then as it got on lots more people started to comment why they preferred the one with more writing to the other.

As you can see the likes on both the magazines are mixed however the one on Adam Lallana that has more writing does have slightly more likes and this is also reflected in the comments as people started to say the one with not much writing looked like more of a poster than a magazine front cover and didn’t look as appealing. They also said the one with more writing was very appealing and would make them want to read what is inside the magazine, this means I will make sure I have more writing on the front cover the writing I will include will be about Virgil Van Dijk and what people have said about him. As I got a lot of feedback and someone asked to see my final piece I will be posting my final magazine article on the page to get audience feedback and therefore I will get accurate answers.

Primary Research

I have conducted my own research to find how who I am able to do a documentary on when doing my research I have been able to witness my friend can do a rubix cube in and around 35 seconds which is very much a talent the fact he can do one never mind the time he can do it in.

I have also seen that he can do a two by two rubix cube and a rubix triangle therefore I have lots to talk about and can easily fit all of this into 60 seconds, I can get footage of him doing the rubix cubes so I therefore can get plenty of footage and also an interview off him to ask him about how he learnt them and how long it took.
